Aggregate Calculator

Estimate the volume, weight and approximate number of bulk bags required for gravel, sand, ballast, limestone and other aggregates.

Typical defaults: Material density and bag weight vary with grading, moisture and supplier. All assumptions can be edited before ordering.
Please enter dimensions and assumptions greater than zero.

Surface areaLength multiplied by width.
Net aggregate volumeVolume at the entered depth.
Net material weightBased on the editable material density.
Suggested order quantityIncludes a 10% allowance.
Approximate bulk bagsRounded up using 800 kg bags.
Enter the required dimensions to estimate aggregate quantities.
Planning estimate only: bulk density changes with aggregate type, grading, moisture and compaction. Confirm the supplied product, coverage and bag or loose-load weight with the merchant or quarry.

How the aggregate calculation works

Area = length × width
Volume = area × depth
Tonnes = volume × material density
Order quantity = tonnes × (1 + allowance)
  • Millimetre depth is converted to metres.
  • The bulk-bag figure is rounded up to a whole bag.
  • Split irregular areas into simple rectangles and add the totals.
